About Lisa Haynes Winsett
Hello and welcome! This blog has come about for a few reasons – a spring cleaning, getting out of the corporate world, and through the encouragement of my husband (Kip, thank you for creating this beautiful website!). Kip will be providing some commentary as a guest blogger as well.
I grew up surrounded by art and with the creation of art. In my own home we’ve always displayed art, occasionally rotating pieces when we think of it, but the spring cleaning brought to light all of the art that has been hidden (literally) in boxes, closets and in the garage.
These are original works of art created by myself, friends and family (especially my mother, step-father (visionary painter), father-in-law (graphic artist) and husband (photographer, website designer), and include paintings, drawings, ceramics, weavings, photographs and wooden boxes. There are also collections of blown glass, antique bottles, rocks and crystals, as well as ethnic pieces.
It is an honor to start by sharing some of my mother’s art with you here (she died in 2014). She truly was an extraordinary person and touched so many people’s lives. You can read her autobiography, in which she tells her story as the daughter of immigrants (Filipino father, Norwegian mother): “Almost Americans: A Quest for Dignity” by Patricia Haynes McReynolds (previously Patricia Justiniani Haynes).
